Longcanggou---Located in the center of the Rainy Zone of Southwest China, an ecotone between Western Sichuan Plain and the Himalayans, Longcanggou is a very popular birding site in China. The dense subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forests are home to a lot of special species and some range-restricted species.

Chengdu  ( Chengdu Panda Base  &  Wenshu Temple &  Sichuan Opera )
In the  morning you will make a memorable visit to the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. Located just 10 km (6 miles) away from downtown,this facility is not only the most important panda scientific research center in the world, but also the home for more than 100 Giant Pandas. You will walk at leisure through the bamboo-framed paths and closely observe giant pandas of different ages eating bamboos, playing with each other, tumbling, and climbing trees.The base cares also for other rare and endangered wild animals with an area of 560 mus (92 acres), 96% of which is verdure. Giant pandas, lesser pandas, black-necked cranes, white storks as well as over 20 species of rare animals are fed and bred there. Verdant bamboo, bright flowers, fresh air, a natural hill scene and a beautiful artificial view are merged ingeniously at the base.

When traveling in the panda base, you can also do some birding with our professional bird guide. The panda base holds some good local birds like  Golden Pheasant, Chinese Bamboo Partridge, Vinous-throated Parrotbill, Chinese Grosbeak, Chinese Blackbird, Red-billed Leiothrix, Streak-breasted Scimitar Babbler etc.
 
 
Following the pandas, you will be taken to a hidden spiritual Buddhist temple in the hustling downtown of Chengdu – Wenshu Temple. Marvel at the exquisite Buddhist architecture, soak in the reverent atmosphere, and wander on the peaceful paths.Cultural relics are the highlights of Wenshu Monastery. Since the Tang and Song dynasties, over 500 pieces of painting and calligraphy by celebrities have been stored here. In the Sutra-Preservation Pavilion, many famous handwriting exhibits, paintings, and artwork are restored. In addition to its cultural relics, Wenshu Monastery is famous for its exquisite garden and solemn halls. Tourists and locals can enjoy tea  or coping the scriptures in the Tea House while listening to music by folk artists .
After that drive to a teahouse in Chengdu Culture Park for the Sichuan Opera. Sit back and enjoy a performance packed with wit, humor, lively dialogue, amazing acrobatics, dancing, acting, puppetry and music, all of which celebrate Sichuan’s creative history in the performing and fine arts. Most acts are derived from Chinese classical novels, legends and folk tales. The opera features dazzling sets and costumes and is known for two distinct acts: Changing Faces and Rolling Light.

Day 2  Chengdu - Bifengxia - Shangli
In this morning, your local travel guide and driver will pick you up at your hotel in Chengdu, and then escort you for about 2.5 hours to the Rain City – Ya’an.
 
Bifengxia Panda Base , short for Ya’an Bi Feng Xia Base of CCRCGP (China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda), is also known as Bifengxia Panda Reserve or Bifengxia Panda Center. For the safety and development of the captive population of giant pandas, China’s State Forestry Bureau planned and built the panda center in Bifengxia Valley in Yaan on December 28th in 2003. Being the “paradise” for about over 40 giant pandas of different ages, Bifengxia Center performs extraordinarily for the breeding, rescue, research, scientific education of giant pandas to save this rare and endangered animal species, together with Dujiangyan Panda Ark and Wolong Shenshuping Panda Base, and is reputed as the “World Natural Heritage - Giant Panda’s Habitat in Sichuan”.

Shangli Ancient Town, being one of the “Top 10 Ancient Towns in Sichuan”, is a National AAAA Tourist Area. It is very popular to savor the special charm of old wooden stilted houses of the flavors of Ming and Qing dynasties, idyllic hills, winding water. Also, this town is one of the must-go places to know about the history and culture of the South Silk Road and the Red Army. If you have enough time, don’t miss this poetic old town that is about 18km away from Bifengxia Panda Center.
 
Stay overnight in Ya’an.
D3 D4  雅安--龙苍沟 (观鸟)                      住:龙苍沟
Two full days birding in Longcanggou which is famous for holding more than 7 parrotbill species: Great, Brown, Grey-hooded, Three-toed, Golden, Fulvous, Ashy-throated Parrotbills, and also Temminck’s Tragopan, Lady Amherst’s Pheasant, Chinese Bamboo Partridge, Grey-hooded Fulvetta, Golden-breasted Fulvetta, Gold-fronted Fulvetta, Spotted, Red-winged and Buffy Laughingthrushes, Hair-crested Drongo, Red Crossbill etc.
 
Longcanggou National Forest Park.
Longcanggou is located on the western edge of the Sichuan Basin, the transition zone between the basin and Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The special location makes the geological structures here very diverse. One of the densest subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forests is found here and it is home to a lot of range-restricted and endemic species. Particularly, Temminck's Tragopan and Lady Amherst's Pheasant can be found here. Despite this, in the lush bamboo forest of high elevation, we will look for Great Parrotbill, Brown Parrotbill, Three-toed Parrotbill, Grey-hooded Parrotbill, Golden Parrotbill, Emei Shan Liocichla, Grey-hooded Fulvetta, Golden-breasted Fulvetta, Red-winged Laughingthruhrush, Spotted Laughingthrush, Black-faced Laughingthrush, Darjeeling Woodpecker, Vinaceous Rosefinch, White-throated Needletail, Coal Tit, Fire-capped Tit, Ashy-throated Warbler, Sichuan Leaf Warbler, Emei Leaf Warbler, Large-billed Leaf Warbler, Yellowish-bellied Bush Warbler, Aberrant Bush Warbler, etc. Although infrequently, it is possible to encounter a red panda if we are lucky.
 
In the broadleaf forest of lower elevation, we will look for Gold-fronted Fulvetta, David's Fulvetta, Crimson-breasted Woodpecker, Speckled Piculet, Yellow-browed Tit, Yellow-bellied Tit, Black-throated Tit, Sichuan Bush Warbler, Pygmy Cupwing, Black Bulbul, Emei Leaf Warbler, Chestnut-crowned Warbler, Brownish-flanked Bush Warbler, Rufous-capped Babbler, Red-billed Leiothrix, Red-tailed Minla, Blue-winged Minla, Ferruginous Flycatcher, Snowy-browed Flycatcher, Taiga Flycatcher, Brown Bullfinch, etc.

Back to Chengdu.
Next is an impressive trip to the famous Jinli Old Street. Time steals away from you quietly while walking on the lively streets which are full of delicious local snacks, delicate artifacts, interesting folk shows, etc.
 
Then head to a famous local restaurant for a special hot pot dinner.  Chengdu Hot Pot is one of the most representative dishes in Sichuan and the cuisine you shall never miss during your stay in Chengdu.
Hot pot, famous for being spicy, delicious and fragrant, is the most distinctive food in Sichuan. There are over a hundred types of Sichuan hot pots, including beef omasum hot pot, board muscle hot pot, duck intestine hot pot, yellow braised fish hot pot, pig's intestines and chicken hot pot, fish head hot pot, konjac duck hot pot, spindle edge fish hot pot, etc. Besides, there are plenty of hot pot dishes and almost all edible thing can be put into the pot for dip-boiling and boiling and scalding.
