Route 1 - --Front Mountain Cultural Hiking
Mt. Qingcheng has been an important Taoist site for centuries and is believed to be one of the places where Taoism originated. It is an ideal destination for those interested in combining historical sightseeing with nature-related activities. The set of the popular animated movie, Kung Fu Panda 2, was inspired by this mountain.
Time needed: 3~5 hours around
Trekking Route Details: Entrance Gate - Yuecheng Lake - Buyun Cableway - Ciyun Pavilion (慈云阁) - Laojun Pavilion (老君阁) - Cloud Approaching Pavilion (齐云阁) - Chao Yang Ancient Temple (朝阳洞) - Zhibicao (掷笔槽) - Quanzhen Temple (全真观) - Entrance Gate
After stepping a few hundred meters from the Entrance Gate of the front side of Mount Qingcheng, there are two ways to get reach to the summit Laojun Pavilion (老君阁). One way is via the hiking trails on the left side, and the other one is on the right, which will take you to the lower station of the only cableway in this scenic area. Normally, most tourists prefer to ride the cableway up to the summit first and then hike downhill the mountain. You are suggested to do so because it is the most energy-saving and time-saving option.

In the morning, your guide and driver will pick you up at your hotel in Chengdu downtown area. The following trip is the UNESCO World Heritage Site exploration with 1.5 hours’ driving from Chengdu to Dujiangyan. Later, drive about 16 kilometers to Mount Qingcheng (Front Mountain), the birthplace of Taoism! In 142 CE the philosopher Zhang Ling founded the doctrine of Chinese Taoism here. Most of the essential elements of Taoism culture are embodied in the teachings of Taoism that emanated from the temples that were subsequently built on the mountain during the Jin and Tang dynasties. In this afternoon, the first temple you are going to visit is Jianfu Palace built in 730 in Tang Dynasty. Walk into the holy palace to know many Taoism celebrities and appreciate the famous couplet regarded as “The First of Mount Qingcheng”. Then, enjoy the short boat experience across Yuecheng Lake which lying quietly at the middle of the mountain. Take the 5-minute Buyun Cableway up to the mountain. Next is a relaxing walk to the mountain top, and stop to visit Shangqing Palace for a deep understanding about Laozi, a famous ancient Chinese philosopher and the reputed author of the Tao Te Ching. Continue your walking to Laojun Pavilion situated at the highest peak of Mount Qingcheng (1,260 meters). This pavilion rises 33 meters in nine layers, from a square base symbolizing the Earth to a circular top symbolizing the round sky. Getting into the pavilion, you can view a huge statue of Laozi riding a water buffalo and get the breathtaking panoramic of the whole mountain. After the enjoyable time on the top, return via the same way you come.
After the tour, be escorted back to your hotel in Chengdu downtown (1.5 hours' driving). Service ends!

The Back Mountain hiking starts from Taian Ancient Town on the foot of the mountain. From Taian Ancient Town, there are two ways for your ascend. One is hiking along the trails on the left side, but far more popular is taking the Jinli Cableway on the right side. The cableway will take you to the middle of the mountain in only 5 minutes around. Once arriving at the upper station of the cableway, you could follow the trails on the left side to Youyicun Village, and then hike downhill to meet with the streams, forest and waterfalls. Such a hiking journey will take you half day around. If you are looking for a one-whole-day hiking experience, you could choose the trails on the right side of the upper station of cableway.
